Two community organizations are leading Christmas toy drives this month to support children whose families are facing financial hardship.

Rotary Belén will open its annual holiday initiative with a Christmas Collection Evening on Dec. 9 at Il Padrino Restaurant in Lindora Canton, San José.

The group is asking residents to donate toys and essential items that will later be delivered to vulnerable families.

Rotary Belén, known for its work in education, health and community development, will distribute the donated gifts on Dec. 13 during a visit to Puriscal Canton in San José.

“It’s one of the most meaningful moments of the year for us,” said Stéphane Dahler of Rotary Belén. “We hope the community will join us in bringing joy to children who need it most.”

Dahler can be reached at 8886-0363 or Rotary Belén at 8981-8307, email crbelen@rotarybelen.org.

Another Christmas effort is underway through the Toys for Tots program, operated locally by the Marine Corps Warriors League Costa Rica.

The
initiative, founded in 1947 by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Maj. Bill Hendricks has distributed more than 6,250 toys to children in Costa Rica since 2014.

Organizers are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children up to age 13, which can be dropped off at Tap House City Place in Santa Ana, San José. A public toy collection event is scheduled for Dec. 13 at 10 a.m.

Soccer balls and stuffed animals are especially appreciated for an upcoming visit to the Hospital de Niños cancer ward in San José.

Those wishing to contribute may contact Peter Swing at 8582-2505 or Andy Pucek at 8721-6636.

Expats can make a powerful impact by supporting initiatives led by fellow foreign residents. When they join together on efforts like Christmas toy drives, they help bring joy to local children and strengthen a sense of community during the holidays.
