Costa Rica has updated retail prices for several fuels, including diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the Public Services Regulatory Authority announced.


The adjustment follows a request from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (Recope), to bring local prices in line with changes in international fuel markets.


Aresep said the updated rates reflect reductions in several factors at the time the fuel import was negotiated, including international oil prices, taxes, import costs and the exchange rate.

Updated prices:

• Super Gasoline (RON 95): ₡636 per liter, down from ₡639, about $1.27 per liter or $4.80 per gallon.

• Regular Gasoline (RON 91 / Plus 91): ₡609 per liter, down from ₡632, roughly $1.21 per liter or $4.60 per gallon.

• Diesel: ₡541 per liter, down from ₡549, about $1 per liter or $3.78 per gallon.

• Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), 25-pound cylinder: ₡6,879, up from ₡6,823, about $13.75 each.

The new prices took effect on Thursday after being published in the official government bulletin, La Gaceta.

Aresep, a state regulatory agency, is responsible for setting public service rates in Costa Rica.

Recope, the state-owned oil company, manages the importation, distribution and sale of fuels.
