The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) reported that 1,173 drivers were fined for speeding from January through March. The figure represents an increase of 73 drivers compared with the same period in 2025, authorities said. Of those cited, 54 drivers were recorded traveling above 74 mph, an offense considered a criminal violation. In such cases, drivers are arrested and brought before a judge.
Those cited for A-level infractions face fines of $725 and receive a six-point penalty on their driver’s license. A six-point penalty results in automatic license revocation. To regain driving privileges, motorists must retake the driving exam and score at least 70 out of 100. Police also reported that 221 drivers were fined about $520 and received four points on their licenses for exceeding the speed limit by at least 24 mph.
Recently, traffic
authorities reported 113
traffic-related deaths during the
first two months of the year. Motorcyclists
accounted for the largest share of
fatalities, with 63 deaths, or 56% of
the total.
The MOPT is the
government agency responsible for
planning and managing the country’s
roads, airports and maritime ports, as
well as overseeing public transportation
regulations.
