Most retail fuel prices in Costa Rica have increased across all fuel products, except for super gasoline (RON 95), the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) announced.

The price adjustment follows a request from the state-owned Costa Rican Oil Refinery (Recope), which sought to align domestic fuel prices with recent movements in international markets.

Aresep said the new rates reflect increases in several components calculated when fuel imports were negotiated between Feb 15 and March 15, 2026. Those factors include international oil prices, taxes, import costs and the exchange rate.

Authorities warned fuel import costs could climb further in the coming weeks amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The updated retail prices are:

  • Super gasoline (RON 95): ₡632 per liter (down from ₡633), about $1.33 per liter, equivalent to roughly $5 per gallon.

  • Regular gasoline (RON 91 / Plus 91): ₡628 per liter (up from ₡607), about $1.29 per liter, or approximately $4.88 per gallon.

  • Diesel: ₡565 per liter (up from ₡530), about $1.20 per liter, or roughly $4,55 per gallon.

  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), 25-pound cylinder: ₡6,867 (up from ₡6,753), about $14.61 each.

The new prices already took effect on Friday after being published in the official government bulletin, La Gaceta.

Aresep is the government regulatory agency responsible for setting public service rates in Costa Rica.

Recope, the state-owned oil company, manages the importation, distribution and sale of fuels.
