The
winning numbers for Costa Rica's popular
midyear "Gordito"
lottery, or little chubby lotto, drawing
were announced Sunday, with the jackpot
going to ticket holders with number 79 and
serial number 139, according to the Social
Protection Board (JPS), the government
agency that oversees the country's lottery
system.
The
annual July drawing was held at JPS
headquarters in San José and broadcast
live on the state-owned Channel 13.
To win the Gordito jackpot, players had to match both the two-digit winning number, 79, and the three-digit serial number, 139.
Each
printed lottery issue consists of three
identical full sets, known as an "entero,"
with each set containing 100 individual
tickets, or "pedacitos."
All three winning sets with the matching
number and serial will receive the full
jackpot of more than $3.3 million.
Players
holding a single winning ticket, or pedacito,
with number 79 and serial 139 won
approximately $111,000.
The
drawing also awarded a second prize of
about $533,000 for the three winning sets,
or approximately $1,700 for each ticket.
The second-prize winning combination was
number 24 with serial number 135.
The third prize totaled about $266,000 for the three winning sets, or approximately $880 per ticket, for number 24 with serial number 032.
In
addition to the top prizes, the Gordito
drawing awarded approximately 100
additional prizes ranging from $5 to $500
per winning ticket. A complete list of all
winning numbers and serials for those
prizes is available on the
JPS website.
All
lottery prizes are tax-free and paid
immediately. Winners may claim their
prizes at JPS
headquarters,
located at Fourth Avenue and 20th Street
in downtown San José, or at any Banco de
Costa Rica branch.
Anyone
in Costa Rica, regardless of nationality
or immigration status, may purchase
printed lottery tickets. Winners may
choose to receive jackpot payments in cash
or by direct deposit into a Costa Rican
bank account.
Costa
Rican citizens and foreign residents with
a DIMEX identification card may also
purchase tickets online through the JPS
website. The platform allows unlimited
purchases, and any winnings are deposited
into the registered account within 24
hours.
Revenue
generated by the national lottery helps
finance social programs and charitable
organizations throughout Costa Rica. A
portion of the proceeds is also used to
pay commissions to lottery vendors.
