Costa Rica has updated its fuel prices, with gasoline seeing a rise while diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) experience slight declines, the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) announced.

The changes follow a request from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (Recope) to align local prices with shifts in international fuel markets.

According to Aresep representative Mario Mora, the new rates reflect rising international import costs, which directly affect domestic prices. Import negotiations were based on global market conditions between August and September 2025. “These changes reflect fluctuations in the international fuel market and aim to ensure that local rates are fair and updated according to actual costs,” Mora said.

Authorities note that fuel prices are adjusted periodically based on international purchases and costs reported by Recope. A new pricing update is expected in the coming weeks.

Updated prices:

  • Super Gasoline (RON 95): ₡677 per liter, up from ₡663, approximately $1.35.

  • Regular Gasoline (RON 91 / Plus 91): ₡662 per liter, up from ₡649, roughly $1.32.

  • Diesel: ₡556 per liter, down from ₡565, around $1.12.

  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), 25-pound cylinder: ₡7,003, down from ₡7,114, about $14.06.

The new prices took effect Tuesday after being published in the official government bulletin,
La Gaceta.

Aresep, a state regulatory agency, is responsible for setting public service rates in Costa Rica.

Recope, the state-owned oil company, handles fuel imports, distribution, and sales.
