The
discovery includes remains of a Cuvieronius, a
giant mastodon related to proboscideans,
and an Eremotherium, a
giant ground sloth that inhabited what is
now Costa Rican territory thousands of
years ago.
In a
statement, the museum said the finding
represents a significant contribution to
the country’s scientific knowledge,
strengthens the national paleontological
collection and
once again positions Costa Rica at the
forefront of regional megafauna research.
The
investigation began after a private
citizen reported the possible presence of
fossil remains on private property.
