Costa Rican filmmaker Hernán Jiménez-García presented his latest film, "Abril," on Tuesday during a premiere screening at the Magaly Theater in San José.

The 46-year-old film director, screenwriter, actor and stand-up comedian is presenting his latest comedy-drama, which is now playing in theaters across the country in Spanish.

The movie tells the story of a divorced woman, Abril, played by Maricarmen Merino, who struggles to reconnect with her resentful daughter, Valentina, played by Lara Yuja Mora. After her daughter moves in with her father, Julián, played by Hernán Jiménez, Abril forms a bond with bartender Gabriel, played by François Arnaud, giving her a glimpse of a life beyond motherhood.

Jiménez is a graduate of Canada's National Theater School. He also studied directing at the San Francisco Art Institute and attended the film program at Columbia University's School of the Arts in New York.

Jiménez's feature-film debut, "A Ojos Cerrados" (Closed Eyes), premiered in 2010. The film follows a successful young executive who must choose between honoring her grandmother and an important work project.

His follow-up, the romantic comedy "Entonces Nosotros" (About Us), was released in 2016 and stars Jiménez as Diego, a man trying to salvage his relationship with his longtime girlfriend, Sofia.
