By
region, North America remained Costa Rica’s
largest export market, with combined sales
to Canada, the United States, and Mexico
climbing 21%. Exports to Europe grew 17%,
while shipments to Central America increased
7%. In contrast, sales to South America
slipped 4%, COMEX reported.
In
2024, Costa Rica’s total exports reached
$19.8 billion, up 9% from $18.2 billion in
2023.
To
support long-term export growth, the Costa
Rican government legalized medical
cannabis and hemp production in 2022.
Recreational use, self-cultivation, and
personal consumption remain prohibited.
