The traditional Christmas Festival at the Children’s Museum will be held tonight.

San José's Christmas season begins with the annual illumination of the museum building.

The free admission festivities start at 5 p.m. with games, dancing, and children's concerts. The celebrations will continue throughout the evening. The museum will be illuminated for Christmas, including a fireworks show sent off at 7 p.m.

Because police anticipate thousands of families attending the celebration, they closed roads around the museum to guard pedestrian safety.

To avoid significant traffic issues and accidents, traffic authorities closed the road between the Bank of Costa Rica headquarters on 2nd Ave. and 4th St. and the Children's Museum building.

Police urge parents to "not neglect their children and walk only on the sidewalks."

They also advise avoiding sprinting, wearing luminous clothes, crossing at specified corners, crossing with the red light in the corners, and disregarding traffic officials' directions.

Officers also advise people to avoid driving and instead use a cab, rail, or bus. Those who park in prohibited areas will be sanctioned.
