Canada played to a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica to secure first place in Group C of the 2024 Concacaf Women Gold Cup on Wednesday night at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

According to the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf), Jordyn Huitema opened the scoring with a header inside the box in the 11’, connecting with a long-range service from Jessie Fleming.

The first goal of the match developed through the left wing from the outside back Shelina Zadorsky to midfielder Gabby Carle and winger Clarissa Larisey, before the Canada captain delivered her first assist of the tournament.

Zadorsky extended Canada’s lead to 2-0 in the 27’ with a header at the far post on a corner kick from Adriana Leon.

Olivia Smith came on for the second half and nearly provided an instant impact in the 47’, but her attempt went wide as the Canadians continued to press for more goals. Smith helped by connecting with Larisey and Carle.

Zadorsky headed in another corner kick attempt in the 57’ to collect the brace and give Canada a 3-0 lead. This time it was Smith providing the assist from the corner flag.

Costa Rica attempted to get on the scoreboard as Raquel Rodriguez hit the top post in the 70’. Costa Rica would have the last offensive play of the match off a corner kick from Alexa Herrera, but Fabiola Villalobos’s header was well-defended before time expired.

Canada finished the group stage with a perfect three wins and no goals conceded, while Costa Rica awaited the result of the Paraguay-El Salvador match to find out its immediate future.
