American Airlines, a major U.S.-based airline headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, launched new flights between Alajuela, Guanacaste and Miami.

Beginning on Dec. 20, new flights will be enabled between the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR), known as Guanacaste Airport and Juan Santamarķa International Airport (SJO) located in Alajuela, to the Miami International Airport (MIA), U.S.A.

Four Boeing 737 flights will depart every day from SJO at 8:16 a.m., 11:56 a.m., 1:57 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Costa Rican time. These flights will arrive in Miami at 12:05 p.m., 3:55 p.m., 5:55 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. ET respectively.

Additionally, three Boeing 737 flights will depart daily from LIR at noon, 1:55 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. Costa Rican time. These flights will arrive in Miami at 3:55 p.m., 5:55 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. ET respectively.

Additional information about flight schedules can be found on the American Airlines website.

American Airlines is one of many airlines increasing the frequency of their flights to Costa Rica. Recently, the Spanish airline, Swift Air, announced an increase in direct flights between Puerto Rico and SJO.

Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in Costa Rica. As of February, the Tourism Institute recorded more than 554,000 tourists have visited the country. That is over 216,000 more visitors than the same period in 2022.

Last year, about 2.3 million tourists visited the country. That is one million more visitors than in 2021.
