Nations calls on Nicaragua
to respect Human Rights By the A.M. Costa Rica staff On Friday, at the Session of the U.N. Human Rights Council, based in Geneva, Switzerland, the resolution "Promotion and protection of Human Rights in Nicaragua" was published, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the Ministry, the resolution was led by the countries of Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru. The resolution received support of 47 other countries. "This shows the great concern of the international community for the deteriorating Human Rights situation that continues in that country, even two years after the start of the political crisis," said the Ministry in its statement. In this resolution, for the second consecutive year, the concern expressed on serious human rights violations continues in Nicaragua. An example is that social protests are repressed by disproportionate use of force by the Nicaraguan police. In addition to concerns about the continued restrictions on civic space, the state government infringes on the basic freedoms of expression of protesters in Nicaragua, including journalists and human rights defenders, said the Ministry. According to the Ministry, in the resolution, the Human Rights Council calls on the government of Nicaragua to cease arbitrary arrests and detentions. As well as release all illegally detained people. They must guarantee the conditions of detainment are within the guidelines of the Human Rights Council. U.N. makes a call to the government of Nicaragua to take effective measures that guarantee the independence and impartiality of the justice system for the Defense of Human Rights.
