The U.S. Coast Guard officers alerted the National Coast Guard Service of several large black bags floating 37 kilometers offshore from Llorona Beach, in Puntarenas Province. According to the Ministry of Security, it was on Saturday when the U.S. Coast Guard plane was carrying a routine patrol flight over the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica when they spotted 45 large bags floating in the maritime zone of Costa Rica. Responding to the alert, two Costa Rican Coast Guard patrol boats followed the coordinates provided in the alert and found the casted floating bags. The cargo was transferred to the coast guard station in Golfito port. ![]() A video of the drugs being found was released by the Ministry of Security and can be seen on the AM Costa Rica YouTube channel. At the port, specialists from the Drug Control Police carried out chemical tests on the cargo, determining that there were 900 packages of cocaine weighing one kilo each. There are currently no suspects being arrested for having dumped the cargo into the sea. Agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization will continue with the investigations to find the persons responsible for the drug shipment. The judicial agents call on the population to report any suspicion of drug sales or trafficking to the confidential line 800-8000-645, where there are bilingual agents who can answer calls in English or Spanish. ![]() The U.S. Coast Guard support on anti-drug operations in Costa Rica happens very often. Just last month, the U.S. officers were alerted about a drug trafficking case in the waters of the Caribbean Coast. ![]() In June, a C-17 military aircraft of the U.S. government transported 39.2 tons of drugs seized in Costa Rica. ----------------------- What else could the authorities do to stop drug traffic in the country?
