Tourist Hackathon 2020 this weekend

If you have an idea to make improvements in the area of tourism in rural communities, this article may interest you.

Registration is open to participating in the Tourist Hackathon 2020. The contest has the goal of applying technology to improve social and tourism development of the country. It will take place Saturday and Sunday at Lead University, located in the district of Pavas, San José Province.

The contest is organized by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute and INCAE Business School to reward the best technological program that can be implemented in different tourist areas of Costa Rica.

The Tourist Hackathon 2020 aims to collect a set of solutions for the tourism sector, using technological tools that generate alternatives to social problems, said the institute in its statement.

In this year's edition, the contestants must apply technological ideas to solve the needs of Sarapiquí in Heredia, Tamarindo Beach in Guanacaste and Turrialba in Cartago.

According to the institute some of the issues to be resolved are: access to basic knowledge, tolerance and inclusion, environmental quality, access to information and communications, among others.

The Hackathon contest will be extended for a total of 24 uninterrupted hours and will be supported by technical mentors and experts in the areas to work. Also, there will be activities to make the event a pleasant experience for participants, said the institute.

Students, professionals, entrepreneurs, or anyone with knowledge in systems engineering, data science, design, economics, social work, business administration, political science, among others can participate.

The jury will choose three winners who will receive $1,000 for first place; Also, they will have the opportunity to be part of the solutions that are applied for the improvement of social development in tourist destinations.
