The U.S. Embassy Consular services at Golfito

On another service to U.S. Citizens, U.S. embassy workers will be available to U.S. citizens in Golfito next week with another consular outreach event. The consular staff will be available for passport renewals, notary services, and federal benefits inquiries on Jan. 30 .
Any applicable fees must be paid in cash or in colones. No checks, credit cards, or U.S. dollars can be accepted, said the embassy.
Embassy staffers will be at Fish Hook Marina and Lodge in Golfito that day with services as follow:
- From 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Town hall for citizen services information
- From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Citizen services for passport renewals, federal benefits inquiries, voting assistance and notarial services.
Adult Passport Renewals prize is 67,700 colones. To be eligible, A U.S. citizen must present a 10-year passport that still is valid or expired less than five years ago," said the embassy. Other requirements are, submit a DS-82 form and a 2-inch-by-2-inch passport photo with a light-colored background.
Consular staffers will not process applications for lost/stolen passports or renewals for applicants under age 16, and they cannot accept photos that do not conform to the prescribed standards, said the embassy.
To utilize the embassy San Jose’s courier return service, citizens must go to the link Correos/U.S.Services and complete the online form. The information submitted must match the identity of the applicant and correspond with a recent passport service, said the embassy.
Embassy staffers will also provide notary services at the rate of 30,800 colones per seal. The presence of the person requesting the notary acknowledgement and legal proof of identity are required.
Other services will be also provided, such as Federal Benefits and Voter Assistance, applications for replacement Social Security cards, informational material on Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependents, and Survivors, as well as voter registration applications, the embassy said.

The Embassy in San José is closed today for the Martin Luther King Jr’s Day, U.S. national holiday.
The embassy will resume its operations in part Tuesday due to the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo.
According to the embassy, on Tuesday the Consular Section will be open for American citizen services from 8 to 10 a.m. and from 2:30 to 4 p.m., but from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., staffers will be providing services via phone only.
