If you love Costa Rican nature and exercise, this information might interest you.
The Tourism Institute announced the beginning of the season of ecological walks, which started 20 years ago by nature lovers who practice hiking and visit different natural tourist areas in the country.
The walks are done in groups, without limitation of members, through the forested areas of San José with the goal of a walk for a long distance in areas surrounded by woods.
This year the ecological walks group celebrates its 20th anniversary to be dedicated to Carlos Mora, known as “El Indio,” who started with this movement and inspired others to continue practicing the hiking, the institute said.
According to the institute, the walks are classified variously as for a family with children over 6 years old, tourism recreational and high performance for athletes.
The average duration per walk is five hours, taking place in special areas for the practice of this sport.
On Sunday, Feb, 9, the walk will be towards the Cross in Alajuelita atop San Miguel peak. With an estimated time of 2 hours and 45 minutes in an estimated 10 kilometers of hiking.
Other places where the group hikes are areas like the hills of the Paso de La Viuda, the hills of La Ventolera, on the banks of the Poas River, towards the Pico Blanco mountain, at the Los Coyotes forests, to the mountains of the wind towers of Santa Ana and near the town of Palmichal de Acosta, among many others.
Registration costs $3. It is recommended to take a snack, comfortable clothing and hiking shoes. More information can be reached on the organizer's phone, 8507-0956.
In other news, the institute reports that it opened an office for tourist at the Oficentro Villas de Guanacaste in Liberia near the road to Daniel Oduber International Airport.
"The regional office will maintain the services provided, such as the procedures to obtain the tourist declaration, or certificate for tourism sustainability or the ecological blue flag in the category of beaches, as well as information related to the maritime terrestrial zone and to support the tourism sector in the area," said the institute in its statement.
More information about the new branch of the institute in Liberia can be reached at 2666-2976.
