Costa Rica Team Soccer fans will not be able to attend the stadium in-person for the game against El Salvador that will take place on Sunday, Oct. 10, at the National Stadium, the Soccer Federation announced.

Recently, the authorities announced the plan to make available 5,000 tickets for only fully vaccinated people.

The plan was in place, until authorities noted concern about proof of vaccination. The document provided by the Ministry of Health takes approximately 15 days to be issued. Due to that dilemma, authorities decided that the game would take place without the public.

That game is a pre-qualifier for the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, Concacaf, for the Soccer World Cup that will take place in Qatar in 2022.

According to Rodolfo Villalobos, president of the Federation, there is no other way (besides the certificate) to verify that the person is fully vaccinated.

Authorities are already discussing a possible solution for this situation for future mass in-person events. A Quick Response code, QR, could be implemented, which is a type of barcode that contains information about the person's vaccination information, also called covid-passport.

That technology will allow quick verification of the mandatory requirement for all fully-vaccinated people entering the stadium. But it takes time to implement that technology, so the next game will be without an audience.

The Federation requested the government to allow fewer people to enter the stadium, about 3,000, on the condition no one was going to request proof of the vaccine. That was the same strategy implemented in September to carry out two matches for Team Costa Rica.

The government is expected to issue its position regarding the request made by the Federation.
