More than a thousand covid-19 patients were recovered in the Covid Hospital By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Since its opening in April, the Specialized Patient Care Center with Covid-19, so-called Covid Hospital, has treated 1,016 patients infected with covid-19 that have overcome the virus.
Of the total number of patients treated at the hospital, 218 died, approximately 21% of the cases, confirmed Mario Ruiz Cubillo, medical manager. "This is successful considering the complexity of the therapeutic approach and the degree of severity these patients present," he said.
On Friday, the hospital registered 71 patients infected with covid-19, of these 43 men and 28 women.
Between July and October, the Insurance Institute provided 48 beds and sent medical staff for the care of covid-19 patients.
However, due to the increase in traffic accidents, the institute requested the return of the beds and the medical team, so the capacity to care for covid-19 patients at the Covid Hospital was reduced.
Earlier in the year, Social Security invested $16 million to develop the hospital, to build the hospital in the facilities of the former National Rehabilitation Center.
In April, the Covid Hospital began operating exclusively for the care of patients infected with the coronavirus covid-19.
Since their aperture, 10,944 covid-19 patients have been attended. The hospital has an approximate 16% death rate, where 1,839 patients have died, according to Social Security statistics.
