More than 23,000 families receive aid,
said the government

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

An aid of $170 per family, was delivered to 23,700 families living in poverty, said the government through the Social Aid Institute on Tuesday

According to the institute, most of these families received the first bonus in April. Participants did not need to fill out any type of form since they are already identified by the institute.

Data collected shows that it was mainly women in charge of their families, taking care of their children, elders, or people with disabilities, among other issues, who received the aid.

In the case of people who did not have a bank account, institute officials helped them open a bank account in order to receive the fund.

"We help women who bear the responsibility of looking after elderly, disabled and children, to have an income that allows them to cover basic needs during this pandemic," said Juan Luis Bermúdez, minister of Human Development.

Authorities clarify that this benefit is not the so-called Bono Proteger, which is another aid campaign that the government is developing.

People in situations of extreme poverty can receive help at the institute by calling the number 506 2202-4000.
