Since the borders closed on March 19 by Presidential Decree, 2,994 Costa Ricans and foreign residents have been able to enter the country by air.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the most recent group of returnees arrived on Monday from the city of Houston, Texas, United States of America.

Passengers arrived on a United Airlines flight from Bangladesh, Qatar, India, Israel, Korea and Mexico. This was in addition to travelers from the states of California, North Carolina, Florida, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York and Texas, in the U.S.

The coordination of the flight was done with the help of the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica and United Airlines, said the ministry.

On June 15, another flight with 155 people, among Costa Ricans and foreign residents arrived in the country. They traveled from Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. This was the second aid flight organized by The Costa Rican American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham.

The AmCham developed the “Back to Home” program that coordinates flights to return Costa Ricans and their residents.

According to AmCham, the fundraising campaign has collected $61,782.00. "The money will help more than 250 Costa Ricans return to their homes," they said.
