Government inaugurates $17 million-plus overpass

President Carlos Alvarado inaugurated the overpass in the Zapote District, San Jose Province on Monday through a live stream on the Government's website.

According to the government, the construction of the overpass cost $17.6 million provided through a loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, CABEI.

The overpass is 864 meters long, with a bridge of 550 meters. It has 6 lanes. Three lanes in each direction. The underpass has 4 lanes, 2 in each direction at 500 meters in length.

The area of the roundabout, also called a traffic circle, was rebuilt with a design of gardens around the monument of Garantias Sociales.

The roundabout is illuminated with LED lighting, which guarantees significant energy savings and allows safe traffic for drivers and pedestrians, said the government.

The MECO company was the winner of the tender for the construction of the overpass. It was reported 300 people worked in this project of which 10% were women.
