Enabled refund of National Parks tickets closed by emergency covid-19

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

National Park closures around the country have been extended until May 1 in order to control the spread of the  coronavirus covid-19, announced the Ministry of Environment on Wednesday.

Originally the ministry ordered the closure of national parks from March 20 to April 13, however, due to the increase in restrictions ordered by the government, this period was extended.

"The closure will remain in force due to the regulation by the authorities to avoid crowds," said the ministry in their statement.

However, more than 400 park rangers continue to guard the 144 Protected Wildlife Areas to prevent tourists from entering during the quarantine period.

People who bought tickets or paid for reservations, can request a refund or reschedule the date of the visit by reaching the park via email:

- Tortuguero National Park, pnt.turismosostenible@sinac.go.cr

- Chirripó National Park, reservaciones.chirripo@sinac.go.cr

- Poás Volcano National Park, poas.info@sinac.go.cr

- Corcovado National Park, devoluciones_corcovado@sinac.o.cr

- Caño Island Biological Reserve, devoluciones_isla@sinac.go.cr

The online reservation and ticket purchasing site are currently not enabled until further notice.

For more information about the process of refunding the price of tickets or rescheduling the visit, call at the National System of Conservation Areas at (506) 2522-6500.
