$1.2 million-plus for entrepreneur
projects to fight against covid-19

If you are an entrepreneur and have a project to fight the spread of the coronavirus covid-19, this information may interest you.

The opening of a $1,250,000 contest for non-reimbursable financing to entrepreneurs who have a plan for the containment of covid-19 in the country was announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the money will be awarded for research, innovation and technology transfer in programs related to the detection, treatment or control of covid-19. The maximum amount to be awarded per project will be $250,000 and the maximum execution period will be 12 months.

Also, entrepreneur winners will receive training, technical assistance and support as a way to relieve the economic effects of the crisis on small and medium-sized enterprises, so-called SMEs.

The fund is provided by the Innovation and Human Capital for Competitiveness Program of the Inter-American Development Bank.

The call for the proposals opens on April 15. The goal is to grant non-reimbursable financial aid so that entrepreneurs who can implement innovation projects that generate solutions for the rapid detection of covid-19, reduce its spread and combat its effects on people's health, said the ministry in its statement.

Also, the ministry opens a second contest for companies to provide training, technical assistance to companies.

The training is related to topics that allow companies to increase production based on scientific-technological knowledge. The goal is to support those companies to face the coronavirus crisis.

This second contest is open until April 24.

Companies that can compete to be part of this second project, must provide advice and training to other entrepreneurs on topics such as innovation, digital transformation and electronic commerce among others.
