By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Costa Rica has
imported 6,495,495 vaccines against
covid-19, the National Emergency Commission
said.
The most recent shipment containing 142,740 doses of Pfizer vaccines arrived on a DHL cargo last night at the Juan Santamarķa International Airport. These are part of the 4,469,045 Pfizer doses imported. The country purchased 6,001,125 Pfizer vaccines to inoculate more than 3 million people. The country also imported 775,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines as part of the 1,000,000 purchased doses for the treatment of more than 500,000 people. In addition, the government has received 259,350 doses through COVAX, which includes approved vaccines, such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna. The country purchased 2,037,600 doses to provide treatment to more than one million people. In September, the country received 69,600 doses of AstraZeneca donated by the government of Spain. Last month, another 319,200 AstraZeneca doses were donated by Canada. In July, the U.S donated 503,100 doses of Pfizer vaccines. Since vaccines became available to Costa Rica, there have been about 10,207,915 total vaccines purchased and donated. This sum could protect more than 5 million people living in the country. Recently, President Carlos Alvarado announced a new donation of 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine by Austria. Alvarado did not provide information on a specific day the donation is expected to arrive. The government confirmed that herd immunity can be achieved when the 83% of the population, approximately 4,274,344 million people are fully vaccinated. As of this week, Costa Rica has applied 5,596,495 vaccines against covid-19. ---------------------
