By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The construction of the new bridge over Ciruelas River, located in the Villa Bonita District in Alajuela Province, is in its final phase, according to the Ministry of Public Works. During this week, only four lanes will be open (two per traffic direction) for workers to finish the final painting of road, pedestrian areas and asphalt. Due to there still being workers in the area, the authorities call on drivers to travel at low speeds to avoid accidents. With these works completed, it is estimated that the bridge will be fully enabled this month, one year after the works were started. The bridge will have six lanes (three lanes in each traffic direction) and safe zones of around 350 meters in length at both bridge sides. This bridge is part of the Route 1 highway, from San José Province to San Ramón Canton in Alajuela Province. As part of the construction of that new highway between provinces, work will continue on the road between the cantons of Barreal and Castella in Heredia Province. Currently, the last phase of work is also being carried out, which includes removing some electric poles. The authorities have scheduled to inaugurate this new highway also in August. ![]() The government continues with its plan to improve the country's main highways. One of these is the highway in the Uruca Industrial Zone in San José Province, which continues under construction. During this month, a segment of the main highway will be closed overnight for repairs in the area. ------------------------ What roads require repairs in your community?
