The Canadian-based company Baylis Medical, a developer of innovative medical devices in cardiology, opens operations in Costa Rica. The company plant is located in La Lima Free Zone in Cartago Province, where it will manufacture cardiovascular products to serve global markets. “We are proud to be expanding Baylis Medical with a new facility in Costa Rica," Kris Shah, President of Baylis Medical said. "Our team in Costa Rica will be instrumental in helping us serve patients through leading cardiology devices that will improve the lives of people around the world for years to come.” According to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, CINDE, in the country there are 12 of the world’s 30 leading medical firms. In 2020, there were 81 MedTech companies located in Costa Rica, generating more than 38,000 jobs. The agency said that Costa Rica’s similarities to Canada, in regards to core values, made the country attractive for Baylis Medical expansion. The firm announced its plans to hire almost 200 workers once it reaches its full capacity. The company is currently looking for a core team that will support the operation setup. Costa Rica is an attractive country for international companies to open operations. ![]() To support more Costa Ricans to find a job in these companies, the government in joint work with two international firms, announced a plan to train young people in next-generation technological tools, enhancing their ability to find a job. However, the country remains with a 17.7% unemployment rate, according to the National Employment Survey.
