The international companies, SAP from the U.S. and the Germany-based Bosch developed a plan to train young people in next-generation technological tools, enhancing their ability to find a job. This training will be held in the Cenfotec University, in downtown San José, with the support of the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE), The project, called “Skill-building for Shared Services” launched in June with CINDE’s sponsorship. The goal is to improve the training of 30 unemployed young people by building their technological and soft skills so that they are better positioned when seeking job options in a booming sector. According to CINDE, Costa Rica has more than 180 companies operating in the service sector in different market segments such as banking, e-commerce, food, logistics, messaging, electronics, and finance, among others. The plan is aimed at helping unemployed young adults while at the same time strengthening the competitiveness of the companies operating in Costa Rica. In addition to training in SAP, the beneficiaries of this project will be supplementing their education by using the Voxy and Coursera online learning platforms to improve their English and build the technical skills required for employment. This first generation of students will complete their training on Sept. 16 of this year. The idea is to replicate this initiative in the short term, and coordination is currently underway for both this and the selection method for new participants. People interested in participating in this training program should contact Cenfotec University by calling 4000-3950. ![]() This is the second plant to improve technical education in the country. The Texas-based National Instruments Corporation offered a $100,000 grant to benefit two non-governmental organizations, NGOs, that have a STEM education focus. In July, the New York-based company Hangar Worldwide expanded operations in the country and opening 50 job vacancies for web developers. Also, the Seattle-based company, Amazon, announced the opening of 2,000 new on-site and virtual job positions. Another firm was the California-based company, Intel, which announced an investment of $600 million for the expansion of its operations. Wind River, a California-based firm delivering software for intelligent systems also announced that it will continue to expand its services from Costa Rica. However, the country remains with a 17.7% unemployment rate, according to the National Employment Survey. The survey reveals that there are approximately more than 430,500 people without registered jobs in the country from March to May 2021. ------------- What should Costa Rica do to find a job in technology companies?
