The Ministry of Public Works announced a budget of about $3,227,892, covering the construction of five bridges in Golfito Canton in the southern zone of Puntarenas Province. According to the ministry, of the planned five bridges, four are located over the Sombrero, Bijagual, Camañin and Piro rivers. Vehicles are now able to pass due to the average global construction progress of 81%. There were no bridges over these rivers, so in the rainy season, it was difficult to move around the area due to the rivers overflowing. "Some minor details remain, but the structures are in service so that they can be used by residents of the area and tourists, since last month," Iván Fonseca, representative of the National Highway Council said. "The goal is to enable those as soon as possible." The bridges include metal bases, two main lanes, one in each direction of traffic, an extra-wide lane of 4.2 meters and safety elements for pedestrians. The construction of the fifth bridge over the Carbonera river is 36% complete. The delay is due to soil conditions that made it necessary to make a special design for one of the bridge bases. ![]() The government continues with its infrastructure plan to improve the country's main highways and bridges. Recently the ministry announced that the construction of the new bridge over Ciruelas River in Alajuela Province is in its final phase. ------------------------ What have you heard about road repairs in your community?
