As of May, there were 214 deaths in traffic accidents, Traffic Police reported.
Of the total deaths, 112 were motorcyclists (which is equivalent to 52% of fatalities), 11 were car drivers, 14 were cyclists and the rest were passengers and pedestrians.
Among the main causes of these road accidents were 89 for speeding, 50 for disrespecting the yellow line and invading the oncoming lane, 40 for making an unlawful U-turn, 23 were caused by pedestrians and the rest were caused by drunk drivers and other circumstances, police said.
Reports
reveal that most of the
accidents happened at night.
Of the total deaths 138
(64%) of the deathly
accidents happened between 6
p.m. and 6 a.m. of the next
day. Of these 71 people died
between midnight to 6 a.m.
and the rest of the
fatalities happened between
6 p.m. to midnight. Recently,
police reported more than
20,000 drivers were fined
for breaking the Traffic
Law. As
of March, more than 2,700
DUI tests were applied by
Traffic Police. Of
these, police identified
over 500 positive DUI with
more than 0.75 grams of
alcohol in their systems. Last
year closed with more than
480 deaths in traffic
accidents. Police
statistics show 215 more
deaths were registered
compared to the 365
fatalities in 2021, which is
