The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Costa Rica, located in the San Pedro District in San José Province, is carrying out a campaign for free prenatal care services for women.

Starting today, specialists are offering preventive healthcare, also known as antenatal care. This will be provided in the form of medical checkups, consisting of recommendations on managing a healthy lifestyle and the provision of medical information such as maternal physiological changes in pregnancy, biological changes, and prenatal nutrition including prenatal vitamins, which prevents potential health problems throughout the pregnancy and promotes the mother and child's health alike.

Among the services currently offered are monitoring, such as the fetal well-being test (which allows evaluating the fetal heart rate pattern and detecting possible alterations), prenatal and postnatal control, management of complications, identification of risks in pregnancy and breastfeeding support.

Aside from monitoring, follow-up appointments, emotional support, and access to education are included. Some of the discussion topics focus on how to prepare for childbirth and the rights of pregnant mothers.

The campaign is part of the learning processes of advanced students in Nursing, with the supervision of professors with extensive professional experience.

Health services are provided to all women of any nationality or status as residents, nationals, immigrants or tourists. Doctors are attending patients at the university facilities in San Pedro District, San José Province.

Anyone interested in requesting an appointment should fill out a form that is available on the university website or by calling 8362-7165.

On the day of the medical appointment, patients must present their ID, Dimex or passport.

Prenatal care is one of many health services provided by the University. Recently, the Faculty of Nutrition is carrying out a campaign for health services at a low cost of $22 per medical appointment for the public.
