Sharon Herrera-Soto made history by being the first Costa Rican woman to win a silver medal at the International Grand Prix that took place in La Coruña, Spain.
According to the Sports Institute, Herrera competed in the race walking a 10-kilometer route in the under-20 category.
Upon reaching the finish line, Herrera set the same time as the Mexican world champion Karla Ximena Serrano. Both reached the finish line with a time of 45 minutes and 19 seconds.
However, by the decision of the judges, the gold medal was awarded to the Mexican athlete. That sets the Costa Rican in second place winning the silver medal.
In third place and winning the bronze medal was the Colombian Natalia Pulido, with a time of 45:58.
The national athlete competed with 12 athletes from countries such as Mexico, Portugal, France, Italy, Colombia and the host country Spain.
Herrera's next competition will be at the Central American and Caribbean Games which will take place between June 23 and July 8 in El Salvador.
Herrera joins the rankings of other Costa Rican athletes who have been recognized in international games. Recently, the Paralympic athlete Sherman Güity-Güity won the gold medal in the 200-meter sprint race at the Italy Para Athletics Grand Prix 2023. -------------------- Professional's services and business U.S. Income
