The Costa Rica private Universities participate in the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA) that was held in Washington D.C., USA.

According to the Foreign Commerce Promoter agency (Procomer), representatives of many private universities such as Veritas, Hispanoamericana, Central, Internacional de las Americas, Ciencias y Tecnologia, San Isidro Labrador and Iberoamericana were promoting the college education in Costa Rica.

They offered the fair attendees information on the Costa Rican higher education proposals. They also met with representatives of international universities such as Universidad de Alicante, Mohawk College, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, Sungshin Women's University, University of Utah, University of California, Berkeley, University of Delaware, University of Michigan, University of Nebraska Omaha, Université du Québec and York University among many others.

This trade fair for the higher education sector brings together hundreds of experts representing academic institutions, consulting companies, suppliers, and other sector stakeholders.

The event is an opportunity to address any concerns about the internationalization of educational services in Costa Rica, authorities said.

The goal of participating in NAFSA is to discover emerging trends in student mobility, establish new relationships with university partners, create networking opportunities in education, and identify global market needs, said Procomer in its statement.

Mario Sáenz, Director at Procomer, said that Costa Rica is the prime destination in Latin America for students from the United States. This is based on the results of the recent report published by the study abroad organization.

Authorities said that Costa Rica stands out for its focus on sustainability and the stewardship of the environment as part of its education proposal. These aspects have been differentiating the country from other destinations, contributing to its positioning worldwide.

According to data from the Central Bank of Costa Rica, at the end of 2020, a reported 33% of foreign students from the United States chose Costa Rica as a destination to pursue their university degrees, in addition to 9% from Canada, 13% from Europe, and 6% from Latin American countries.

In the country are several private universities such as Texas Tech University, Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas, United Nations University for Peace and EARTH University among many others.

There are also five public universities as Institute of Technology (TEC), Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica (UNA), Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) and National Technical University (UTN).

Public universities offer degree programs according to their specialty and by law and manage their own central and regional campus.
