The 270 young musicians of the Municipal Band of Zarcero will arrive in the country Saturday, after their presentation at the Rose Parade that took place in Pasadena, California. New Year's Day. "Yesterday was an unforgettable day for everyone," posted the band members on its website minutes after the end of the parade. "Thank you, Costa Rica, for supporting us at all times during the 9 km. of the Rose Parade!." “In Pasadena, we will present Costa Rican music and, also, the bright Latin feeling. We want to show that Costa Ricans, and in general the Latin people, are cheerful," said Elesban Rodríguez, director of the band before the event. The slogan of the presentation of the band in Pasadena is “We are Costa Ricans,” which exhibits the pride of the musicians about the culture, music, and traditions of Costa Ricans. According to Rodríguez, participation in the Rose Parade has opened many doors for the group, so the band has already received invitations for presentations in México and Colombia. At 10:50 a.m. Wednesday was the band's turn to parade in front of the cameras of the ABC television channel, which covered the parade. The band performed the melody "Jabirú" of the Costa Rican composer Mauricio Piedra Quirós. ![]() Before the Rose parade, the band performed in Los Angeles and at Disneyland in Anaheim. Most of the band members are from the city and canton of Zarcero in Alajuela. It is a community with a population of 4,277, according to the municipality. Many of their band members did not have enough money to pay for their stay at the Rose Parade, so for a year ago, the fundraising campaign. One weird issue was that the official site of the parade on Facebook mistakenly wrote the name of Costa Rico, an obvious confusion with the country Puerto Rico. "Banda Municipal de Zarcero presents musicians and traditional dancers from Costa Rico. Founded in 2008, the band was created to provide the community of Zarcero with the goal of providing youth with a way to develop their artistic and musical skills," wrote the Rose Parade in its Facebook site. Minutes later, the parade organizers apologized for the confusion, "we are sorry that the information we originally provided had an error," they wrote. This is not the first international presentation made by the band. In 2018 it was present at the Giulianova International Festival in Italy. In 2017 the young musicians were at the Central American Parade in Los Angeles, California. In 2013 and 2017, the band was at the Parade of Central American Bands in Panamá. Zarcero Municipality Band is the third Costa Rican band that has participated in the Rose Parade. The first one was the Band of the Arts Conservatory from Cartago in 2005. An amateur video of the presentation of the band in 2005 can be reached at YouTube. ![]() The second was the Municipality Band of Acosta in January 2019. The band presentation can be seen on the municipality's YouTube channel. The presentation of the Zarcero band can be seen on the Rose Parade YouTube channel, specifically in the minute 52:02. -------------------- What other Costa Rican band should be the next to present in Rose Parade?
