Women National Soccer Team face Rice University today

The National Women's Soccer Team of Costa Rica plays today against Rice University in an exhibition match at 6 p.m. local time at the Owls' Holloway Field in Houston, Texas.

The Costa Rica National Team is there for the 2020 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying matches later this month where trip to the Summer Olympics in Japan will be on the line. Costa Rica is in the qualifier's A Group along with the national teams from Haiti, Panamá and the U.S.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Rice student-athletes, getting a chance to compete against an international team that could very well be playing in the Olympic Games later this summer," said coach Brian Lee. "The exhibition is right at the very start of our off-season training program, but we welcome this unique challenge. Having the match in front of our fans at Holloway Field will add extra level of excitement for our team."

Costa Rican Jazmín Elizondo chose a strong base of experienced players such as Shirley Cruz, Gloriana Villalobos, Melissa Herrera, Raquel Rodriguez, among others.

"We are happy with this list of players, and also with all those who were in the whole process," said coach Elizondo. "The new ones we summoned were presented with the opportunity and they came, they did well and we consider that they enter the profile that we want from the players for this tournament. ”

The Costa Rican team traveled to Houston Tuesday for the training game against Rice before facing the Panama team Tuesday.

The match will be televised on local channels, and the score will be published in the National Football Federation in the following link.

The women's soccer team
won  bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games, the multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization, was held in Lima, Peru, from July 26 to August 11.

The team won by Daniela Cruz scored the goal at minute 82, with which Costa Rica defeated Paraguay 1-0.
