Win cash for visiting national parks By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Visiting the country's national parks or wild areas, with your social bubbles, could let you win cash prizes between $500 to $1500.
The contest is organized by the Asociacion Costa Rica Por Siempre (or in English, Forever Costa Rica) in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
Prizes will be for groups of the same social-bubble. The team that wins first place will receive $1500. There is also a prize of $750 to the team that is in second place and $500 for the third-place team.
The DesafíoCRx10 campaign gives prizes to the winning groups for visiting national parks and complying with all the sanitary guidelines established by the Ministry of Health, to avoid the spread of covid-19.
"In this year we want people in their social bubbles to be encouraged to go out responsibly to know everything that our protected areas offer," Zdenka Piskulich, executive director of the association said.
To compete, people must form a team with members of their social bubble, register on the DesafíoCRx10 website, visit at least 5 of the 10 protected wild areas that are part of the contest and complete the challenges at each park.
The challenges in each park give points. Some of the challenges include taking a team photo at the entrance of each site, taking another photo within the national park, eating in a local restaurant, among others. The three teams with the most points will win the cash prizes.
The national parks that can be visited are Barra Honda, Braulio Carrillo, Cahuita, Rincón de la Vieja, Santa Rosa, Arenal Volcano, Irazú Volcano, Prusia sector and Turrialba Volcano; the Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge, and the Guayabo National Monument.
Teams have a deadline to register no later than Jan. 24. Park visits must take place between Feb. 1 to April 30.
For more information about the rules of the contest call the Costa Rica Por Siempre phoneline (506) 2220-4270.
