covid-19 will be audited By the A.M. Costa Rica staff To control the application of vaccines against covid-19, Social Security will manage an audit of the campaign process. The transparency is intended to show the country how they can confide in the vaccination campaign designed by the authorities, Social Security said. The ongoing investigation will continue throughout the year to detect errors in the control guidelines during the vaccination campaign. As well as verify the follow-up of the patients who received the treatment, and the control of reception, distribution and vaccination process. According to Social Security as of Monday, of the 47,345 vaccine doses already distributed to hospitals and public clinics, 29,389 have been applied since Dec. 24. Only 132 people in Costa Rica have completed the required two doses of treatment. The vaccination campaign continues in the first phase, which means that people in the first pre-selected group are still getting their first inoculation. This group includes health workers, elderly people living in nursing homes, nursing home staff, firefighters, policemen, and workers of the National Emergency Commission, among others. While the campaign advances, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday the updated statistics of the virus development. 303 new covid-19 cases are reported, bringing the total to 41,313 current active cases. 23,289 foreign-born people have been infected, totaling 186,016 cases since March, approximately 12.5% of the total cases. Of these, authorities confirmed the death of 32 foreign-born patients. But since October, there is no updated information about foreign-born deaths due to covid-19. 568 patients are being treated in public hospitals, where 239 patients are in ICUs in delicate health conditions. Their ages range from 1 to 93-years-old. And 329 patients are in recovery rooms. Many of the remaining infected patients are quarantined in their homes. 142,245 patients have fully recovered, a 76.5% recovery rate of the total cases since March. 555,839 covid-19 tests have been conducted in Costa Rica since March, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University in the United States. 2,458 deaths are listed as covid-19 related, approximately 1.3% death rate of the total cases since March. Of these 924 are women and 1,534 men. The ages range from a 2-year-old to a 101-year-old.
