Updated guidelines for hotels and tourism-related companies released
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
The new guidelines for hotels and tourism have been developed by the Ministry of Health in compliance with the technical criteria for dealing with the precautions needed to fight covid-19.
According to the authorities, the guideline will be updated according to the evolution of covid-19 in the country.
The goal of the new guidelines is to establish requirements allowing a gradual reactivation of the tourism sector in a safe manner, said the ministry in its statement.
Following the orders of the ministry, the application of this guideline is mandatory for the tourism sector throughout the national territory.
Small hotels and related tourism businesses are authorized to reopen from Monday to Sunday, without time restriction. Although they will be open to the public they must be working with minimum personnel.
Businesses will be able to continue working as long as they maintain the capacity of 50% of the number of people or clients.
Large hotels, cabins or accommodation establishments can reopen only if they provide accommodations to:
• Foreign tourists who are already in the country
• Flight crews or cases of special services
• Long-stay tourists or residents of the hotel
• Public administration officials or public service providers.
• Diplomats working in embassies.
Motels have stricter guidelines, as they will be able to operate from Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Self-service for food services to the public may also operate from Monday to Sunday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The full list of new guidelines can be reached at the Ministry of Health website.
For more information on how to adequately apply the refined guidelines to a specific hotel or tourism operating company, the ministry can be reached at the line (506) 2223-0333.
