San Francisco Bay Area-based software company Autodesk announced plans to open in the country its operations branch to support businesses across Latin America.
An initial office location for the first cohort of employees will open in March 2021 in Cariari District, Heredia Province. In its early stage, the Costa Rica team will largely be composed of inside sales professionals. In the long-term plan, the office is part of a strategy to centralize sales resources to better engage customers in small and mid-size business segments.
“Establishing a presence in Costa Rica is in line with our optimistic view of Latin America," said Morgan Kirkland, Senior Director in Autodesk’s Americas sales organization.
According to Roberto Mikse, Latin America Regional Director for Autodesk, the company develops software for its customers to build more resilient infrastructure, to design more sustainable buildings, to manufacture more energy-efficient cars, to reduce waste and pollution and to construct more energy-efficiencies, among others.
According to data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, in 2019 Costa Rica was the most open country for the transaction of digital services, enhancing collaborative production ecosystems and technological convergence.
Autodesk considers for employment all qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other legally protected characteristic, the company said in its statement.

This year international companies located in the country have generated more jobs, reported this week by the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, CINDE.
According to the agency, international private companies created 19,806 new jobs, 18.4% more than the previous year. Currently, more than 330 of these companies generate more than 134,000 jobs in the country.
Outside of the Greater Metropolitan Area, GAM, which is the zone made up of cities in the outskirts of San José such as Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago, there is a registered 15% annual growth in employment during the last five years.
According to statistics provided by the agency, 54% of international companies reported growth this year. Of every 10 new jobs, 9 are generated by these companies. Also, this year, 26 international companies opened operations in the country.
However, despite the positive numbers announced by the agency, the unemployment increase continues to be one of the most critical issues in the country.
According to the Employment Survey of the National Institute of Statistics and Census, the unemployment rate was at 21.9%, from August to October, meaning the unemployed population reached 526,138 people.
