U.S. singer Jack Johnson helped with the Ministry of Environment program in planting more than 300 trees inside a national wildlife refuge in Hermosa Beach in the Province of Puntarenas.
According to the ministry, the importance of this type of effort lies in the fact that vegetation helps regulate the temperature of the sand, which allows the recovery of habitats of species such as turtles so that they can nest again there. It also manages to prevent erosion of beaches with less degradation on the coast.
"We must remember the importance of recovering ecosystems and forests near coastal areas since they have a fundamental role as natural barriers against the adverse effects of climate change," said Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, minister of Environment. "Also they fulfill an indispensable function in the recovery of the fauna."
Johnson performed at the Coca Cola Amphitheater in Parque Viva Sunday.
Johnson along with representatives of the Costa Verdes Nonprofit Association and representatives of the ministry planted about 300 trees along several meters of the beach.
According to Daniel Uribe, president of Green Coasts, it is a privilege for them to work for several years in the conservation of natural resources, especially the coastal seas.
"We are honored to have been selected for this green activity, in favor of a clean sea, without plastic and with the recovery of its biodiversity," said Uribe. "The success of these activities is the result of a joint effort that has been working since 2009 hand-in-hand with local communities and actively involving schools, colleges and universities. ”
