California-based Intel is opening 200 jobs, both technical and administrative, in Costa Rica.

The new employees will work in electronic engineering, electromechanics, and similar areas, also, in administrative areas such as human resources and finance, announced the U.S. multinational corporation.

“The Costa Rican human talent quality is a key piece for Intel operations in the country, and over these 24 years, it has made it possible for us to offer high-quality services and value-added to the Corporation at the world level," Timothy Scott Hall, PR for Intel Costa Rica said.

Intel is currently employing close to 2,400 Costa Ricans. People interested in applying for a job vacancy should visit the company jobs website.

Half of the available positions are associated with new assembly and testing operations that are forecast to begin in the second half of this year after the necessary certifications have been approved. These operations are part of the Intel manufacturing and operations organization.

In December 2020, the corporation announced an investment of $350 million over the next three years to resume operations in Costa Rica.

The assembly and test facilities are at the company's campus in San Antonio de Belén Canton, Heredia Province, and are expected to begin operations during the second half of 2021.

In addition to the operations, Intel continues to invest in the people and local communities of Costa Rica. Over the last decade, employees have volunteered more than 190,000 hours and, only in 2019, Intel donated over $268,000.

Although more international companies are offering job vacancies in Costa Rica, unemployment is one of the most critical issues. According to the Employment Survey, from November 2020 to January 2021, the unemployment rate was 19.1% meaning the unemployed population reached more than 468,000 people.
