U.S. company invests $250,000 to open operation in Costa Rica

South Carolina-based Synter Resource Group, a business process outsourcing, BPO, services to the transportation and logistics industries, invested $250,000 to open operations in Costa Rica.
The company chose Escazú Canton in San José Province to open its first branch in Latin America, hiring 35 employees.
“We evaluated several other Latin American countries and always came back to Costa Rica," Mike Daugherty, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Synter said. "The solid government infrastructure was a reason, in addition to the excellent educational system and literacy rate.” According to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, CINDE, Synter is one of the 330 companies that have settled in the country. Their company took into consideration democratic stability, legal security, and human talent as important factors in making their decisions and as part of their strategy, they said.
Synter recently celebrated its 18th anniversary in October 2020. Among its customers are trucking companies, third-party logistics firms, freight brokers, small parcel delivery providers, railroads, and truck & trailer leasing companies.
In the third quarter of 2020, exports from international companies located in Costa Rica reached five billion dollars, a growth of 5.5% compared to 2019, according to CINDE.

Unemployment is one of the most critical issues in the country. According to the Employment Survey, from September to November 2020, of the National Institute of Statistics and Census, the unemployment rate was at 21.9%, meaning the unemployed population reached 516,000 people.
