The Texas-based company National Instruments Corporation, NI,   a popular brand that produces automated test equipment and virtual instrumentation software, announced an investment of $2.8 million in the expansion and renovation of its facilities in Costa Rica.

According to the firm, which opened operations in the country for the first time 10 years ago, the growth will support the tech company’s presence in the country and is expected to bring an additional 80 jobs.

"The announcement of this important investment in new offices, as well as the high-tech laboratory, will allow the company to continue growing and generating stable and quality jobs," President Carlos Alvarado said during his visit to the company.

The company will renovate its facilities in the Ultrapark Free Trade Zone, located in Heredia Province. In addition, it set up an advanced engineering laboratory, ergonomic workspaces with all the necessary safety measures, meeting rooms, collaboration leisure spaces, and ample parking. For this purpose, the company contracted 90% of all services and materials from Costa Rican suppliers, mainly small and medium-sized companies.

The company currently employs 425 people in Costa Rica, 20% above the number expected for 2022 and
maintains its recruiting processes open in several areas. Interested people can apply at the firm Careers site.

"At NI, we believe in the power and potential of making connections between people, ideas, and technology," Carlos Ríos, General Manager of NI for Costa Rica said. " We’re dedicated to helping our customers and the communities we live in to thrive today, tomorrow, and for the next 100 years."

Recently, the company offered a $100,000 grant to benefit two non-governmental organizations, NGOs, that have a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education focus.

Unemployment is a big issue in Costa Rica. The country remains with an 18.1% unemployment rate, according to the National Employment Survey. The survey reveals that there are approximately more than 434,000 people without registered jobs in the country from April to June 2021.
