North Carolina-based FlowZone SRL, has selected Costa Rica to expand its operations outside of China. The company will make an initial investment of  $2,500,000, which will increase in the next two years.

FlowZone manufactures automatic sprayers systems to atomize pest control, agricultural electrostatic sprayers for disinfection.

“Our products facilitate that work, as they do not require manual pumping to develop spraying pressure and instead use lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries that allow for an efficient and consistent flow rate, which protects the environment from chemical overuse and increases application speed,"  said Joe Gustafson, co-founder of FlowZone. "FlowZone also manufactures, by contract, other products for industrial and consumer use.”

According to the company they have kept operations in China since 2011. However, driven by the rethinking of global value chains due to the pandemic, Flow Zone’s founders decided to expand their operations from Asia to Latin America, with Costa Rica as the chosen country.

FlowZone will establish operations at La Ceiba Industrial Park, in Alajuela Province, due to  Costa Rica offered a highly-educated population, sophisticated supply chain and is ideally located in an attractive logistic region with easy access to the Pacific and Atlantic Ports, according to Steve Norris, the company co-founder.

The company will hire ten people in the upcoming months, with plans to grow to 40 collaborators over the next three years.   People interested in a job vacancy should email apply@fzspray.com

Outside the Greater Metropolitan Area, the area is made up of cities in the outskirts of San José such as Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago, was recorded 15% annual employment growth between 2016 and 2020, according to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency.

FlowZone is one of many companies announcing their investment in Costa Rica. This week, London-based  AnalogFolk Group announced its arrival to Costa Rica to develop its most recent company, With Robots.

Although several companies are offering jobs, Costa Rica remains with a 17.4% unemployment rate, according to the National Employment Survey. The survey reveals that there are approximately more than 423,000 people without registered jobs in the country from May to July 2021.
