By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The branch in Costa Rica of the U.S. firm Hologic was the winner of three awards by the Manufacturing Leadership Council. The Council is the first business leadership network, headquartered in the U.S., dedicated to recognizing the improvements in digital technologies, sustainable operational excellence, organization, and development leadership of manufacturing companies. The Council awards are held annually and renowned manufacturing companies from around the world participate. Hologic is a medical technology company focused on improving women’s health and well-being through early detection and early treatment of breast cancer. The Costa Rica branch has been chosen as the winner, in the category of small/medium-sized companies as Leading Manufacturer of 2021. “The Manufacturing Leadership Council manufacturer of the year award in the small/medium business category means an industry recognition of the great work that has been developing for many years now with the incredible Hologic team together and its leadership," Nilo Caravaca, representative of the firm said. ![]() Hologic Costa Rica was also the winner of the Talent Management category with the project "Building a Talent Management System" for a 4.0 Medical Device Company in Costa Rica, which recognizes companies that seek to create and reinforce a culture of commitment and well-being for their collaborators. The third award was in the Supply Chain category, for the project "Supply Chain: Impacting lives, Every Day," which seeks the optimization of processes related to the supply chain and the significant reduction of costs considering market conditions. In February 2020, the firm announced the opening of its Financial Shared Services Center in the Coyol Free Industrial Zone in Alajuela Province. The goal is to extend the support for its U.S. and Canadian operations. The new Center is located in the same building where Hologic’s medical device manufacturing plant has been located since 2008. In Costa Rica, Hologic already employs 700 in the manufacturing plant and the new Center. Costa Rica is the second-largest exporter of medical technologies in Latin America. In 2018 alone, exports reached $3.3 billion, representing a 17.7% growth over 2017, according to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, CINDE. -------------------------- What other U.S.-based company should open operations in Costa Rica?
