The United States Embassy announced the creation of a Guide to Good Security Practices in Tourism Operations, which is a document that supports the work of tourism service operators on safety and security issues.

According to the embassy, these guides will contribute to enhancing security for female travelers. "The guides represent tourism operators’ commitment to sustainable tourism offerings in different areas in Costa Rica," they said in its statement.

The guides complement the new Costa Rican SOFIA Network program, which tourism companies can join to bring together people, companies, and tourists who share common values of gender equality, tourist safety, and sustainability.

The safety on tourism services was a joint effort with the Tourism Institute, the National Tourist Security Council and the National Women Institute, the embassy said.

This is the second project carried out by the embassy for improving the security in the country.

Last week, the embassy held the First International Security Congress called "Sembremos Seguridad" or Let's Sow Security in the English language, at the Costa Rica Convention Center, located in Heredia Province.

The Sembremos Seguridad program was an initiative in 2017 by the U.S. Embassy’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, INL, which has the goal of improving security in some areas of the country with higher crime rates.

In Costa Rica, the program "Sembremos Seguridad" was declared a Public Interest in August 2019.
