River to cost more than $1.3 million
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The president, Carlos Alvarado, announced Monday a budget of $1,370,868 to construct a tourist park bordering the Pacuacua River in the Canton of Mora. Canton of Mora at west of the central canton of San José in the province of the same name with an approximately population of 29,290. Ciudad Colón is the principal city. According to the information provided by the Presidential House, the construction of the park will be financed with funds from the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements in 2020. "The resources will be transferred by the bank to the Mora Municipality for the construction of what will be the first park of this type in Costa Rica," said the government in its statement. The project of the park has the goal of investing in natural public spaces to promote the conservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of biodiversity, the statement said. The park will be built along the edge of the Pacuacua River on properties of the Municipality and Canton de Mora. According to the information provided by the Municipality of Mora, the park will have bridges, docks and pedestrian areas, among other facilities. The municipality expects to obtain the funds for the construction of the park in 2020.  On Monday, the Municipality of Mora announced the construction of the first factory to recycle plastic blocks. According to the municipality, the Institute for Rural Development will contribute about $257,674 to pay for previous studies on the construction of the factory. Starting up the factory requires an investment of $1.3 million, which is expected to have a public-private partnership, said an announcement. The factory will be built on a 2.5-hectares in the Piedras Negras district that belongs to the municipality. The blocks will be made of waste material of polypropylene that is used in food packaging, laboratory equipment and automotive components. Also, recycled polyethylene material used in plastic bottles and disposable plastic containers will be used, said the municipality. The municipality reported that a house of 42 square meters can be built in a week with a team of four using the blocks. The houses will be, pest-free and 100% capable of being disassembles with one or two levels. According to data provided by the Ministry of Health, the country produces every day approximately 564 tons of plastic, of which only 14 tons are recycled. The rest go to landfills or sewers, rivers and seas, it said.
