Tourism Institute is certifying businesses in Google Maps

The Tourism Institute, in coordination with Google Co., will be in charge of validating the My Business certificate, for companies that wish to use this certificate in their business location at Google maps.

My Business is an internet-based service for business owners operated by Google. The network launched in June 2014, as a way of giving business owners more control of what is displayed in the search results when someone searches a given business name.

"There are more than one billion monthly active users of Google Maps services, and we know from Google that consumers use map products more than 44 percent of the time when they initially look for places to visit," Google's Wendy Wang said. "Taking another step to help make our local businesses and attractions visible on this platform helps them individually and also makes our entire destination seem more vibrant and attractive to potential visitors, students, residents, and even private investors."

In Costa Rica, the Institute will validate companies in the tourism industry, who wish to include their company's data in the Google maps search engine.

The My Business tool allows business owners the ability to upload photos, information, events, and discounts, among others. This information will be seen through the platform on google maps.

According to the Institute, the business owner will have unique access to the profile of the company, which would avoid the risk of the information being modified by other people.

"The Google collaboration program with the institutions, aims to complete the information displayed on Google Maps with accurate information about local points of interest and businesses, as well as improve its online presence with images," said the Institute in its statement.

The verification of the company, through the Institute, is a free service.

To obtain the certification, the owner must register with Google through the My Business site here.*

Then, send the QR code, that Google provides, to the email of Carlos Umaņa, representative of the Institute, at email: carlos.umana@ict.go.cr

The Institute will be the organization responsible for generating the respective certificate of authenticity of the business, which will be displayed in google maps.

More information about the certification can be reached at the Institute's phone number (506) 2299-5800.
