Costa Rica staff On Saturday three Costa Rican athletes qualified to compete in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games scheduled to be held from July 23 to Aug. 8, 2021 in Japan. ![]() Luciana Alvarado-Reid qualified for the games in the category of artistic gymnastics. She scored 50.833 points and also achieved the bronze medal in the Pan American Championship held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. ![]() Andrea Vargas won the silver medal in the final of the 100-meter hurdles race of the New Live Invitational Tournament that took place in Miramar, Florida, with a record of 12.76 points. Although the gold medal was won by Tobi Amusan from Nigeria with 12.44 points, the Costa Rican managed to qualify for the incoming games. ![]() Leilani McGonagle qualified for the games by achieving a score of 11.63 points and placing second in the fifth round of the ISA World Surfing Games that took place in El Salvador. Although the first place was won by the Peruvian Daniella Rosas, with 11.93 points, the Costa Rican competitor managed to enter the select group of athletes who will go to the games in Japan. With these three women athletes Costa Rica counts with 8 representers in the Olympic Games: » Brisa Hennessy-Kobara and Leilani McGonagle, for surfing. » Luciana Alvarado- Reid for gymnastics. » Kenneth Tencio- Esquivel for BMX Freestyle. » Sisters Andrea and Noelia Vargas-Mena in athletics. » María José Vargas-Barrientos and Andrey Amador- Bikkazakova for cycling. -------------------------- Have you seen any of these athletes compete in Costa Rica?
