Here is a list of in-person activities for this weekend, beginning today going through Sunday, Aug. 29. Health specialists recommended to follow the well-known sanitary guidelines to avoid getting infected by covid-19. It’s also important to review the Emergency Commission established Alert Zones, and the driving restrictions before booking your outdoor activities.


Outdoor activities



On Saturday
:

Diving Course organized by Mundo Acuatico Academy. The course will take place in Quepos Beach from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must be over 12 years old. The price is $350 pp. Cost covers complete course, manual, diving equipment rental, snacks, boat trip, pool and sea sessions, and professional instructor. Reserve by calling 2224 9729.

Take a walking tour through the urban forests in San José with friendly pets, organized by Arboles Magicos Foundation. The activity starts at 9:30 a.m. from Parque Francia. Tour price $8 pp. Reserve by calling 8849-8316.

Enjoy a high-end Car Show featuring Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Lamborghini, among others. The exhibition organized by Horse Power Media will take place at Santa Ana Town Center in San José Province, starting at 8 a.m. Free entry.

Try shooting practice organized by the Shooting Practice Association Asotipra. The activity will take place at Poligono 38 Especial in Moravia, San José Province, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must bring their weapon and 2 chargers. The entrance costs $20 pp. Reserve by calling 8378 8656.

On Sunday:

Hike to Dragon Mountain in the Fila Bustamante mountain range located in Aserri, San José  Province. The activity is organized by the Mountain JM sport's club. The area is of the humid and cloud forest type. The 12-kilometer walk is for people with good physical condition and mountaineering expertise. Tour starts at 6 a.m. The cost is $35 pp, includes transportation, professional guide, entrance to private farm and photographs. Reserve by calling 8327-7963.

This weekend:

Explore the sea with the Whale Watching Tour in Parque Marino Ballena organized by Costa Rica Tour Deals. The price is $100 pp, which includes a boat tour and lunch. Discounts for social bubbles apply. Call for more information, 6205-3658.

Diquis Museum offers walking tours through the archeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6, in Palmar Sur, Osa Canton, Puntarenas Province. Many tours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The ticket is $7 pp and must be paid by credit or debit card. Call for more information 2100 6000.

Simón Bolívar Zoo in downtown San José opens  at 9 a.m. The place is home to more than 70 species of animals and a large number of tropical plants. Entrance costs about $7 pp at the zoo box office.

Santa Ana Conservation Center, located in the city of the same name in San José Province, opens  at 9 a.m. The place has animal farms, trails and tropical gardens. The entry costs about $7 pp and can be purchased at the zoo's box office.

Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre Canton, Cartago Province, is open this weekend from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cover price is about $10 pp at the box office. Reserve a spot by calling 2511-7949.

Concerts and shows



On Friday:

The Harvey Wild stand-up comedy & piano man show starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Vuelta al Mundo Restaurant in Grecia, Alajuela Province. Ticket costs $5 pp, which includes a drink. Reserve on Harvey's website.

Enjoy the Diesel Rock band concert at Jazz Café Escazu, San José Province. The concert starts at 6 p.m. Cover is $8 pp. Reserve by calling 8830 1591.

Explore the voice of singer Fabrizio Walker at the Observatorio Pub in downtown San José. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $6. Reserve by calling 8910 6593.

On Saturday:

Watch "Las Damas" dance-show by Sin Bordes dance group at the Dance Theater in downtown San José. The show starts at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 pp. Reserve by calling 2256 4838.

The National Philharmonic Orchestra will give a free concert at Dreams Las Mareas Hotel in Guanacaste. Reserve by calling 2690-2400.

Eugene O'Neill Theater in downtown San José presents the tropical music show with Orquesta La Soluciones at 7 p.m. The $10 pp ticket must be purchased with the Sinpe Movil app. Reserve by calling 8310-8844.

On Sunday

Return to the sounds of classic rock with The Rocking Crew band concert at Gastro Pub in Paseo Metropoli Mall, Cartago Province. The show starts at 4 p.m. Reserve by calling 8825 0633 or 2573 0900.

Enjoy a dance music show with Chopo-Tico, Republica Fortuna and Endemia organized by House of Artist. The show will take place at Mercado La California Boulevard Restaurant in downtown San José. The show starts at noon. Entry $11 pp. Reserve by calling 8315-2367 or 8890-8586.

This weekend,  National Theater in San José downtown presents the Entre-Danza dance festival. There will be shows every day from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Entry price $ 6 pp. Purchase tickets on the theater website.

Museums



Friday and Saturday, the Jose Figueres Museum, in San Ramon Canton, Alajuela Province, will be presenting the free exhibition Segunda Piel (second skin) on the costumes used by actors of plays in the last 50 years. For more information call 2447 2178.

Children’s Museum in downtown San José, presents the exhibition "Vida de Bichos" (bugs life)- giant animatronics insects that inhabit the tropics. The activity begins at 9 a.m. Purchase the $5 tickets on the Museum's website. Make reservations by calling 7003 7070.


Movies



The European Film Festival continues at Magaly Theater in downtown San José. They are presenting the films: "August," a Cuban drama starring Damian Gonzales; "Another Round," a Denmark comedy-drama starring Mads Mikkelsen; and "Numbers," a Ukrainian fiction drama starring Viktor Andrienko. Movie tickets are about $5 pp.

The International Film Festival continues with a program of independent films from 34 countries in 18 different languages. Tickets are free. A total of 20 movie theaters will be screening the selected films all across the country. Visit the festival's website to acquire tickets to watch the film and reserve a seat.



At local movie theaters, the new films playing are the horror-thriller film sequel "Don't Breathe 2," starring Stephen Lang, and supernatural slasher film "Candyman" starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

More films in theaters are: "Reminiscence," “Free Guy,” "Suicide Squad 2," "Jungle Cruise," "Space Jam," "The Boss Baby 2” and "F9: The Fast Saga," among others.

Most of the movie theaters are requesting the ticket to be purchased online, such as CCM Cinemas, Cinepolis and CineMark
